Applications for nature's catalysts - enzymes - are growing rapidly, driven both by a large expansion in the number of enzymes that are available and the increasing need for optically-pure intermediates for the production of pharmaceuticals. Successful examples of commercial biocatalytic processes are being reported with greater frequency. As a result, researchers have become more willing to consider biocatalytic processes as viable alternatives to traditional chemical methods. Biocatalysis is beginning to have an impact on chemical process development in the pharmaceutical and agricultural industries. This trend will almost certainly continue with increasing vigor. BioCatalytics, Inc. was established to help companies identify opportunities for the application of enzymes, and then rapidly develop and implement enzyme-based processes. Enzymes can compete with, and in some cases, can outperform other catalysts, particularly when high specificity and selectivity are important. BioCatalytics' goal is to reinforce the existing trend toward the use of enzymatic catalysis, and help companies discover better routes for the production of key chemical products. Our experience in the development and implementation of biocatalytic processes from laboratory to commercial scale is available to serve the needs of customers on a confidential basis.
