A Special Message From The Editor:

As we approach autumn, the financial forecast for the end of year is, at best, unreliable.
The recent front cover of The Economist Magazine read: "2001 things to do in a recession: 1.Get a parachute and jump ". This may be great temporary advice, but I am sure there is more to the economic status of the country than a jump into oblivion.
Since the economy is at the forefront of many headlines, conference room and dinner table discussions, the Technolink Association is co-sponsoring a few thought provoking forums this fall that will address these unpredictable times. The gatherings promise to cover the current climate of the national and international economy. So, as we are approaching the end of 2001, we will soon learn whether the tax rebates and lowering of interest rates stalled the inevitable recession or created another bullish year.

Warmest Wishes: Ssusan Forte O'Neill

Changes in International Standardization Practices May Have an
Effect on the Intellectual Property Assets of Your Company.

Terri Sale, Intellectual Property Attorney, Fulbright & Jaworki L.L.P.
recently shared some thoughts on new standardized trends in Intellectual Property law. "There is a trend towards standardization of intellectual property laws as a result of globalization and technology advances. The standardization of laws has brought continuous changes to domestic intellectual property rights. Another trend is the integration and expansion of intellectual property rights, such as a centralized route to obtaining trademark and patent protection in European Union countries. Businesses need to understand the changes to domestic law and the ramifications of obtaining intellectual property protection through a centralized patent/trademark office to insure protection of their intellectual property assets."
